Evacuation Alert Systems
For High-Rise Residential
Buildings

Evacuation Alert Systems (EAS) allow the fire and rescue service to initiate a phased evacuation of high-rise residential buildings in the event of a fire — complying with the requirements of BS 8629 and the Building Safety Act 2022.

What Is an Evacuation Alert System?

An Evacuation Alert System is a specialist system installed in high-rise residential buildings that gives fire service commanders the ability to alert residents floor by floor, or throughout the entire building, to evacuate in the event of a fire.

Unlike a standard fire alarm — which is owned and operated by the building — an EAS is specifically designed for use by the Fire and Rescue Service under BS 8629, with dedicated handsets for fire service commanders installed throughout the building.

BS 8629 Compliant

All Evacuation Alert Systems installed by Sysco are designed and commissioned to BS 8629 — the British Standard for Evacuation Alert Systems for high-rise residential buildings.

Building Safety Act 2022

The Building Safety Act 2022 and associated secondary legislation introduced new requirements for Evacuation Alert Systems in certain high-rise residential buildings in England.

Fire Service Control

The system is controlled by the Fire and Rescue Service using dedicated handsets — not by residents or building management. This ensures coordinated, effective evacuation under fire service command.
